![]() ![]() You'll occasionally see this archetype referred to as Mono-White Weenie, but the main thing is that you're going to be turning your creatures sideways and hitting opponents as much as possible. These styles of decks normally rely on two things: consistency of mana, due to only being in one colour, and the ability to cast a lot of creatures very quickly. Mono-White Aggro is a deck archetype that can very regularly be seen near the top of the MTG Arena meta. That's not to say that you can't create your own deck to try and break through the meta - and the meta will often shift a little bit to make sure the top spot moves every so often - but popular MTG Arena decks are popular for a reason. These decks are often the ones that MTG teams have been tinkering with and testing out - and their doing well is a sign of this. While it's not always the most exciting thing for players who want to innovate and build their own Magic: The Gathering deck, you'll often find good success if you play the deck that most people are playing. Decks with good chances of winning will often end up having the lion's share of the meta. To quantify what the best MTG Arena decks are, you generally just have to look at the number of each deck that's being played. So, it always helps to keep an eye on the best MTG Arena decks at any given time. Due to the fact that online tends to move faster, you're more likely to find an upcoming deck making a splash in MTG Arena than in paper. One thing that does mark a decided difference between MTG Arena and standard Magic: The Gathering is the rate at which the meta can shift. Thankfully, Standard is kept at the same pace as it is in paper - so if you're only just venturing into MTG Arena, you won’t be too unfamiliar with the meta of the best Standard decks in MTG Arena. It's even more tumultuous than paper-based Magic, at least when it comes to formats like Historic and Alchemy. ![]() So I played to 5-1, 2nd place finish at my FNM last night.overall the night went smooth.MTG Arena is a game where what's good and bad shifts constantly, which can make it tough to know the best MTG Arena decks. My one loss however was to one particular kid who has played the same deck for 4 months: Naya planeswalkers (splashing black for Siege Rhino). His list resembled this: The strategy is very effective for several reasons, including: The concept is simple: ramp into the best planeswalkers in the format and win the late game by wiping the board with End hostilities/Anger of the Gods and finishing with PW's. The deck is obscure, yet powerful, and people don't know how to play against that many planeswalkers. The incremental advantage unanswered PW's give you, adds up deceptively fast. There are so many "hidden" abilities from the activated PW's abilities that it leads to bad blocks/attacks and overall decision making. PW's give virtual lifegain if you focus on killing them, and have snowball-like card advantage if you leave them unchecked.Īll that being said: This was the Abzan Aggro deck I was playing. Wingmate Roc felt very strong against his deck, as did Abzan Charm, and Dromoka's command. Overall I felt the match was winnable for sure, I had him to 1 life game 1 and only punted the match by blocking poorly. Game 2 I got the god draw and he scooped after not drawing his 3rd land. Game 3 was extremely close, but I made some poor decisions in whether to attack his life total or his Planeswalkers (Sorin) on key turns and gave the match away. What kind of playstyle is best for defeating this deck? Should I be focusing on his life total, or trying to keep the PW's off the field? I generally wouldn't worry about such a rare matchup, but the kid is there every week and I want to know how to deal with his Superfriends deck when I inevitably meet it again. What kind of sideboard choices can I bring in specifically for this match-up (without completely neutering my sideboard)? Clearly 2 more Heroes downfall is good. ![]()
